Thank You, Jose Mourinho! We Named a Tournament After You
Jose Mourinho, celebrated football manager, made an unexpected (yet dramatic) appearance in the world of elite chess, and now has a tournament named after him and his statement “If I speak, I will be in big trouble”.
Mourinho’s cameo in chess is due to Magnus Carlsen, the World Champion, who suprisingly dropped out of the elite St. Louis Rapid and Blitz Tournament. The only explanation for this unprecedented action was Carlsen’s very cryptic clip of Jose’s statement. In a matter of hours, the story resonated in the media around the world and started one of the largest chess threads on Twitter.
To commemorate the day when Mourinho’s name was connected to chess more than it was to football, FIDE Online Arena, the official FIDE gaming platform, will organize the annual Jose Mourinho tournament and invites everyone to join in.
