Aryan Chopra
GM
Oyuncu bilgileri
Aryan Chopra is an Indian grandmaster who has spent much of his career on the edge of the elite breakthrough zone. Born in New Delhi, he became a grandmaster in 2016 at just 14 years old and was, at the time, the second-youngest Indian to achieve the title. Since then, his career has been built less on one isolated headline and more on repeated strong finishes in demanding international events: runner-up results in Menorca and Serbia in 2022, another runner-up finish in Biel’s Master Tournament in 2023, a strong 2024 season in team competition, and a runner-up finish at the 2025 Aktobe Open. By early 2026 he had climbed to a career-high peak ranking around the edge of the world top 90 and was firmly established among India’s leading grandmasters. Chopra’s profile is that of a well-schooled, battle-tested professional whose results increasingly reflect top-100 consistency rather than just youthful promise.
Oyun tarzı
Chopra’s chess is usually energetic without becoming reckless. He is comfortable in mainstream theoretical openings, but he also handles long technical tournaments well, which helps explain why so many of his best results come in strong Swiss events rather than only in junior competitions. He often plays with enough ambition to stay in contention without overpressing from equal positions. That balance has made him a durable scorer against both established grandmasters and rising younger players.

- 2017vs Levan PantsulaiaAbu Dhabi Chess MastersHis win over Pantsulaia helped him finish third in Abu Dhabi, one of the strongest early open-event results of his career. It mattered because it showed his GM title was not a one-off milestone but the start of genuine high-level consistency.
- 2025vs Lev ZverevAktobe OpenChopra’s Round 6 win over Zverev kept him in the leading group deep into the event. In a tournament where the podium was decided by small margins, this was one of the results that made his eventual runner-up finish possible.
- 2025vs Munkhdalai AmilalAktobe OpenWinning in the final round is often what separates a good open from a memorable one. Chopra’s last-round victory over Amilal helped him finish on 6.5/9 and secure second place in a strong field.
Açılış repertuvarı
Chopra’s repertoire reflects a modern Indian grandmaster: principled, flexible, and fully prepared to enter theoretical fights. He is comfortable with both classical development and sharper Sicilian positions, and his Black repertoire shows a readiness to choose active counterplay rather than just neutral setups.
