Fabiano Caruana
GM
Oyuncu bilgileri
Fabiano Caruana is an American chess grandmaster and one of the defining classical players of his generation. He entered spring 2026 as world No. 3 in FIDE classical chess and remains a permanent fixture in elite events and world-championship qualification cycles. Caruana won the 2018 Candidates Tournament and pushed Magnus Carlsen to twelve straight classical draws in the 2018 World Championship match before losing in rapid tiebreaks. He is also a five-time U.S. Champion and a gold medallist with the United States at the 2016 Olympiad. His peak classical rating of 2844 is still one of the highest ever recorded and keeps him in the very small group of players who have operated near the absolute ceiling of modern chess. In 2025, he added a second Grand Chess Tour Finals title to his major achievements.
Oyun tarzı
Caruana’s style is precise, deeply prepared, and calculation-driven. He is one of the clearest examples of a modern elite player whose opening work regularly creates serious practical problems for other super-grandmasters. At the same time, his best games are not only about prep: they also show high-end technique, disciplined conversion, and the patience to keep squeezing in long classical fights.

- 2024vs R PraggnanandhaaFIDE Candidates Tournament, Round 13A grueling 89-move win that kept Caruana right in the fight before the final round. It is one of the clearest late-cycle examples of his ability to hold nerve in a world-championship race.
- 2025vs Arjun ErigaisiNorway Chess, Round 3Caruana beat one of the most dangerous attacking players in the field to take the sole lead. It is a strong recent inclusion because it came in a major elite event and against a rising top-10 opponent.
- 2025vs Maxime Vachier-LagraveGrand Chess Tour FinalsCaruana lost the first game of the final, then won three in a row to complete one of the event’s biggest comebacks. This is a very good “fresh” entry because it directly led to his second Grand Chess Tour title.
- 2026vs Hikaru NakamuraFIDE Candidates Tournament, Round 1Caruana opened the 2026 Candidates with a six-hour win over one of his main rivals. Given the tournament context, it is already one of the most relevant fresh games for his current profile.
