Oyuncu bilgileri
Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus is a Turkish chess grandmaster and one of the most extraordinary prodigies in modern chess. He became the youngest Turkish player ever to earn the IM title, then in 2024 became the fourth-youngest grandmaster in history. Later that same year, he set another major milestone by becoming the youngest player ever to cross the 2600 rating mark. By March 2026, he had already entered the world top 40 while still only 14 years old, which placed him among the most advanced teenage talents the game has seen in decades. His recent tournament results reinforced that rise: he shared second at the 2025 TePe Sigeman tournament, won the classical portion of his match against Peter Svidler, and scored an impressive 7/13 on debut in the Tata Steel Masters in 2026. Erdogmus combines unusual maturity with real fighting ambition, and that balance is a large part of why his rise has felt both rapid and sustainable.
Oyun tarzı
Erdogmus plays with unusual calm for his age. He is fully willing to enter sharp positions, but what makes him impressive is that he rarely looks rushed or emotionally carried away by them. His stronger recent games show a player who can calculate deeply, manage the clock well, and keep a coherent strategic plan even in tense positions. That combination of tactical confidence and composure is exactly what makes him such a serious long-term prospect.

Açılış repertuvarı
Erdogmus already shows a surprisingly varied opening identity. With White, he is comfortable in Réti systems, anti-Sicilian branches such as the Rossolimo / Canal-Sokolsky Attack, and quieter Italian structures where piece coordination matters more than brute-force theory. With Black, he often chooses dependable systems that still leave room for counterplay, including the Caro-Kann, Semi-Slav / Queen’s Gambit Declined families, and selected Indian-defense setups.
