Oyuncu bilgileri

David Antón Guijarro is a Spanish grandmaster and one of Spain’s leading classical players of the last decade. Born in Murcia in 1995, he became a grandmaster in 2013 and gradually established himself through strong performances in elite opens, national championships, and team competitions. Antón reached a peak classical rating of 2703 and a peak world ranking of No. 35, putting him firmly in the top international tier outside the super-elite core. His résumé combines individual and team success: he won the Spanish Championship in 2020 and again in 2025, played a major role in club events such as the European Club Cup, and repeatedly showed that he can score against top-class opposition in deep international fields. Antón’s standing in modern chess comes from balance rather than flash. He is a versatile, mature professional whose games often combine careful positional handling with bursts of very concrete calculation.

Spanish chess grandmaster, two-time national champion, and former world No. 35.

Oyun tarzı

Antón’s style is controlled, versatile, and quietly dangerous. He is comfortable in strategic positions, but many of his best wins arrive when a seemingly calm structure suddenly turns concrete and tactical. That makes him difficult to classify as either purely positional or purely attacking. He tends to keep the game within a coherent strategic framework and then calculate sharply when the critical moment arrives, which is exactly what made his Grischuk and Silva wins so impressive.

Playing on the sixth board, Antón secured the match victory and title for Novy Bor by beating Cornette. It was a model team-result game: timely, practical, and decisive.

Açılış repertuvarı

Antón’s repertoire is broad and professional, with a clear comfort in both 1.e4 and 1.d4/c4 territory. Recent FIDE coverage shows him handling Ruy Lopez structures in heavyweight theoretical fights, while his White practice has also featured English / Neo-Catalan setups that aim for long-term pressure rather than immediate forcing play.
