Rauf Mamedov
GM
Oyuncu bilgileri
Rauf Mamedov is an Azerbaijani grandmaster and one of the most durable representatives of Azerbaijan’s strong post-Soviet chess generation. Born in Baku in 1988, he became a grandmaster in 2004 and built his career through a combination of national success, regular World Cup qualification, and strong performances in rapid and blitz. Mamedov won the Azerbaijani Championship multiple times across more than two decades, reached a peak classical rating of 2709, and climbed to a peak world ranking of No. 33. His relevance has continued well into the mid-2020s: he captured another Azerbaijani title in 2025 and remained a top-100 player on the April 2026 FIDE list. In practical terms, Mamedov represents a very modern kind of elite professional — dangerous in fast time controls, fully capable in classical chess, and difficult to eliminate in knockout or match formats.
Oyun tarzı
Mamedov’s style is energetic, practical, and especially dangerous in faster time controls. He is comfortable defending difficult positions for a long time, but he is at his best once the game becomes concrete and the opponent is forced to make a series of precise decisions. That blend of resilience and tactical instinct helps explain why he has remained a threat in national knockouts, online events, and top-level rapid and blitz competitions.

Açılış repertuvarı
Mamedov’s repertoire is practical and flexible, shaped by both classical and fast-chess demands. A cautious editorial summary of his public practice suggests a willingness to vary structures by event, but with a clear preference for active central play and positions where counterplay stays available.
