Pentala Harikrishna
GM
Oyuncu bilgileri
Pentala Harikrishna is an Indian chess grandmaster and one of the most durable elite players India has produced. He became a grandmaster in 2001 as the youngest Indian to do so at the time, went on to win the 2004 World Junior Championship, and later added major senior titles including the 2011 Asian Individual Championship. Harikrishna crossed 2700 in 2013 and reached his peak classical rating of 2770 in December 2016, which lifted him into the world top 10. His later career has been defined by longevity and adaptability: he remained a serious force in open tournaments, team events, and world-championship-cycle competitions, while also contributing to India’s 2024 Olympiad gold-medal team. Even in 2025, he continued to produce high-level results, including one of the most memorable attacking wins of the FIDE World Cup.
Oyun tarzı
Harikrishna’s style is controlled, technically clean, and stronger in practical positions than many people assume. He is often associated with stable structures and sound opening choices, but his best games show that he can attack with real force when the position justifies it. That combination — structural discipline plus tactical readiness — is a major reason he has stayed relevant for so long at the highest level.
