Oyuncu bilgileri

Peter Svidler is a FIDE grandmaster and one of the most accomplished players of the post-Soviet generation. An eight-time Russian Champion, he has remained relevant at the highest level for more than two decades through a combination of deep opening preparation, elite practical judgment, and exceptional resilience in major events. Svidler won the 2011 FIDE World Cup, reached three Candidates Tournaments, and spent years as a fixture in the world top tier, with a peak classical rating of 2769 and a peak world ranking of No. 4. Even in the later stage of his career, he has continued to produce major results, including victory at the 2023 TePe Sigeman tournament and a strong 2025 Jerusalem Masters run, where he topped the round-robin stage and finished third overall.

FIDE chess grandmaster, World Cup winner, and eight-time Russian Champion.

Oyun tarzı

Svidler’s style is dynamic, deeply prepared, and highly practical. He has always been comfortable in complex theoretical positions, but what separates him from many opening specialists is that he remains dangerous long after the prepared phase ends. His best games often show a blend of precise calculation, active piece play, and the confidence to steer the game toward positions where both players still have real decisions to make. That balance is a major reason he has remained relevant across so many eras of elite chess.

En iyi oyunlar

  • 2011
    vs Alexander Grischuk
    FIDE World Cup Final
Svidler won the opening game of the final and then closed out the match 2.5–1.5. It remains the defining championship result of his career because it brought him the World Cup title and another place in the Candidates cycle.
  • 2013
    vs Magnus Carlsen
    Candidates Tournament, Round 14
Svidler beat Carlsen in the final round of the Candidates, handing the eventual tournament winner one of his most dramatic losses. Even though it did not change the final qualification outcome, it remains one of Svidler’s most memorable victories over a world No. 1.
  • 2013
    vs Ian Nepomniachtchi
    Russian Championship Superfinal Playoff
Svidler defeated Nepomniachtchi 1.5–0.5 in the rapid playoff and captured his seventh Russian title. It is a natural inclusion because it came in a direct title decider against another future Candidates winner.
  • 2025
    vs Ian Nepomniachtchi
    Jerusalem Masters, 3rd-place match
Svidler beat Nepomniachtchi 2.5–1.5 and finished third after already topping the round-robin stage. It is one of the strongest recent results on his card and a reminder that he can still score in strong invitational fields.
