Oyuncu bilgileri

Aravindh Chithambaram is an Indian chess grandmaster whose rise from national standout to world-class player accelerated sharply across 2024 and 2025. He won the Indian Championship in back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019, entered the top 100 in classical FIDE rating in 2023, crossed 2700 for the first time in November 2024, and then began converting that growth into major tournament titles. He won the 2024 Chennai Grand Masters, followed it with victory at the 2025 Prague Masters, and later added another major result by sharing first at the 2025 Stepan Avagyan Memorial. By that point, he had clearly moved beyond the dark-horse label and into the group of players capable of winning strong super-tournaments. Aravindh’s best chess combines practical opening choices, clean tactical vision, and the calm to handle long classical events without losing control of the overall tournament picture.

Indian chess grandmaster, two-time national champion, and one of the fastest-rising players in world chess.

Oyun tarzı

Aravindh’s style is practical, composed, and very effective in long classical events. He does not need wild positions to create winning chances, but he is fully capable of calculating sharply when the position opens up. What stands out in his strongest tournaments is his sense of timing: he tends to choose the right moments to press, avoids unnecessary risk, and handles tournament momentum unusually well for a player who only recently broke into the super-tournament tier.

En iyi oyunlar

  • 2025
    vs Vincent Keymer
    Prague Masters, Round 2
This was one of the key wins behind Aravindh’s Prague title. Beating Keymer with Black so early in the event gave him momentum in a field full of established elite names.
  • 2025
    vs Wei Yi
    Prague Masters, Round 3
Back-to-back wins over Keymer and Wei Yi turned a good start into a genuine title run. This result matters because Wei was one of the strongest players in the field and a direct rival for first place.
  • 2025
    vs Anish Giri
    Prague Masters, Round 7
Beating Giri in the closing phase of the tournament was one of the clearest statement wins of Aravindh’s career. It helped protect his lead and confirmed that the event was not just a hot streak, but a controlled top-level performance.
  • 2026
    vs Gukesh D
    Prague Masters
This is one of the best fresh wins on his card. A victory over the reigning world champion in a major classical event showed that Aravindh’s 2025 breakthrough had carried straight into the next season.
  • 2026
    vs David Navara
    Prague Masters
Aravindh’s win over Navara was another important result in Prague 2026 and helped him stay in the fight for a podium finish. It belongs here as part of a strong recent run against elite and near-elite opposition.

Açılış repertuvarı

Aravindh’s opening profile is more unusual than it first appears. With White, he regularly mixes Nimzowitsch-Larsen Attack structures, King’s Indian Attack setups, and flexible flank-opening systems that can steer the game away from the most predictable main lines. He is also comfortable in Réti positions and selected Sicilian battlegrounds. With Black, recurring choices include the Sicilian Defense, Queen’s Gambit Declined / Catalan structures, and the Modern Defense.
