棋手详情

Yu Yangyi is a Chinese chess grandmaster and one of the most accomplished players of his generation outside the constant spotlight of the title cycle. He became a grandmaster in 2009 before turning 15, won the World Junior Championship in 2013, the Chinese Championship three times, and the Asian Championship in 2014. He also played a major role in China’s team successes, winning Olympiad gold in 2014 and 2018 and World Team Championship gold in 2015 and 2017. Yu reached a peak classical rating of 2765 in 2018 and remained an elite all-format player for years afterward. On the April 2026 FIDE list, he is rated 2717 and ranked world No. 23. His résumé is built less on one dramatic cycle breakthrough and more on consistent high-level results, especially in open tournaments, team events, and fast-chess competitions where his practical strength shows clearly.

Chinese chess grandmaster, three-time Chinese Champion, and one of Asia’s strongest all-format players.

对局风格

Yu’s style is controlled, adaptable, and quietly dangerous. He is not usually framed as the most flamboyant player in elite chess, but his results show a competitor who handles many different formats well and rarely looks uncomfortable in theoretical positions. He is especially strong in structures where clean calculation and practical judgment matter more than spectacle, which is one reason he has stayed relevant for so long across both classical and rapid events.

精彩对局

  • 2014
    vs Vladimir Kramnik
    Qatar Masters Open
Beating Kramnik was one of the biggest wins of Yu’s early elite rise. It helped power his title-winning run in Doha and announced him as a serious force in major open events.
  • 2015
    vs Leinier Dominguez Perez
    Capablanca Memorial
Yu’s performance in Havana was strong enough to finish well clear of the field, and his wins over Leinier were central to that result. This event marked one of his best tournament performances against a strong invitational field.
  • 2019
    vs Ian Nepomniachtchi
    FIDE World Cup, Round 4
Yu knocked out Nepomniachtchi and reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup, which was his best run in the event. It remains one of his clearest career-defining wins in a knockout format.
  • 2021
    vs Wei Yi
    Chinese Championship
Yu’s win over Wei Yi was decisive in the race for the national title and helped him defend his championship. It stands out as a high-level domestic result with direct title impact.
  • 2025
    vs Parham Maghsoodloo
FIDE World Cup, Round 4 tiebreaks
This is the freshest result on the card. Yu won the blitz phase of the match and moved on in one of the most demanding knockout events of the cycle, showing that his practical strength remains highly relevant.

开局库

Yu’s repertoire is balanced, classical, and very well suited to high-level all-format chess. His White openings are led by the Ruy López, Open Sicilian, and Petrov / Scotch-related central structures, while with Black he is especially associated with the Ragozin, QGD-Catalan structures, Rossolimo / anti-Sicilian setups, and the Petrov. Yu is comfortable in both heavy theory and more strategic queen’s-pawn positions.
