Central Asian chess is seriously on the up right now and with a $50,000 prize fund and a GM-stacked roster, the President's Cup shows why.

We've followed it since the qualifying rounds which were held on this platform, now we're pleased to report that the 2025 President's Cup in Tajikistan has wrapped up with 19-year-old Indian GM Anand Pranav the clear winner.

The reigning World Junior Champion, who became India's 76th grandmaster in 2022, scored 7/9 in a field stacked with strong grandmasters.

Eight players shared second to ninth place in Dushanbe, including Russian GMs Sergey Drygalov, Nikita Afanasiev, Kirill Shubin, Kirill Putrenko, Erdem Khubukshanov, and the 15-year-old Russian prodigy Artem Uskov, as well as India’s Subramaniyam Bharath and Gupta Sankalp.

Backed by the Chess Federation of Tajikistan and FIDE, the event brought together over 80 international-level masters from 15 countries and carried prize funds of $36,000 in Group A and $10,000 in Group B.

Going into the tournament, eight national online qualification tournaments were staged exclusively on worldchess.com, FIDE's official online gaming platform, to determine the strongest players in the country.

The Tajikistan Chess Federation noted the successful performance of Tajik chess players—almost half of the national team entered the top 50 of the final rankings, and athletes from Tajikistan took six prize places in Group B.

Full results from the tournament are available here.
